Short Sunday ride ; Bucca and Kings Loop Road

My spin on the weekend was a short one around some trails in behind Bucca. Only 40 km but I did get a chance to explore some roads I'd not been down before. I also found a nice bit of singletrack(ish) road running between Nana Glen and Bucca. It was an eventful ride, come to think of it. I saw a prickly little echidna curled up in some leaf litter and two very sneaky dingoes running the ridges. Yep, it was mountains of fun.
Photos from Ulong to Platypus Flats ride

I've just added a few more pictures from a ride I made on Australia day this year from Ulong out to a great picnic spot in the forests around Nymboida called Platypus Flats. The round trip ride from Ulong was a little under 60 km and a good adventure. The picnic spot was surprisingly well maintained and would be a top place for a bit of weekend camping. To cap off the ride a few frosty beers were savoured at the Ulong RSL. Pure gold.
2010 Giant TCR Advanced 1 on Order

Having recently been bitten by the road bike bug I've ordered in a new skinny wheeled speed machine of my very own. In just a few short weeks I'll be the proud owner of a shiny new 2010 Giant TCR Advanced 1. It's gonna be sweet, that's for sure. Ultegra running gear, carbon fibre frame, cool under-the-radar black paint job, and I think it even has a basket.
Nana Glen to Lowanna via Coldwater Creek Road

Digging through some old photos I discovered a series taken during a ride from Nana Glen to Lowanna. I'm not sure why I did this ride. I guess I just wanted to see what was out there. It was steep, very steep on the way up to Lowanna, and the route up Coldwater Creek Road was pure leg burning climbing with not too many flats to take a breather on. But, as the photos show, the views were worth it and the speedy descent down from the plateaux was a blast.

I recommend you take a look at Bike Hugger's very amusing, “A Guide to Bike Culture”. This is a series of slides from Hugger's presentation made at the Best of Ignite Seattle session. Insightful. Humorous. Frightening.

Saturday Ride : Timmsvale Road starting out from Ulong
Posted on Sat 15th Aug 2009 Tweet this
A recent ride starting from Ulong in the mountains behind Coffs Harbour followed the Timmsvale Road through some lush cold rain forest. With fast flat forest roads and shady valleys with deep swimming holes and waterfalls this was a ride with plenty of sites and, as it turned out, plenty of wild blackberry laying in wait for the unsuspecting MTB adventurer.
The Trails and Roads of Sherwood, Coffs Harbour

A good area to ride north of Coffs Harbour is Sherwood, a wedge of land between Bucca, Woolgoolga, and Glenreagh. Criss crossed with up and down fire roads and small, rugged valleys it's a place you can spend a full day exploring and still have time to pop down to the nearby Moonee Tavern for wood fired pizza and a soothing ale.
